Researchable topics in educational technology mit internet of things online short course path report melanoma images well good morning today is September 22nd today is the last day of summer but based on the temperature you wouldn't know it and we're supposed to have like 88 90-degree temperatures coming up the next day or two and 80 degrees all next week so it may be the start of fall but it sure doesn't feel like it Susan and I are taking a ride this morning it's a beautiful day but it's a bit breezy you may or may not be able to tell that by the background trees blowing around but we're going out for a ride we've been kind of cooped up the last few days because it's been cloudy and humid and not really the kind of weather we like to ride but today we're going out for a ride hope you come along with us and thanks for watching so we're headed due south right now and we should have a pretty nice tailwind following us as we head towards the center of Guildford so I do want to mention and I do want to salute mark Beaumont those you who are not familiar with who mark Beaumont is he's a cyclist from Great Britain he is a world-class endurance rider he has been for a number of years and he just set an incredible record that I'm gonna sure I'm sure will stand for a very long time he just completed writing around the world in 78 days unbelievable that's remarkable now if you can't get your head around the numbers 78 days and riding completely around the world which I believe is 18,000 miles GCN had a introduction video into the first day that he started off that'd be mark Beaumont and sigh Richardson one of the GCM presenter event presenters the world with Mark on the very first day first leg of his 78th day journey and that first day nearly killed sy Richardson mark and sy road 230 miles on his first day that's a that's well more than a double century and then mark followed it up with 77 consecutive days of writing double more than double centuries that's really nuts unbelievable so quite an achievement anybody in the cycling community who pays attention to social media or even the news I'm sure you heard about my remarks achievement and marks record and all of us all of us and humble before someone like that who can accomplish such an amazing feat congratulations mark you know what kind of preparation do you have to have to be able to not only handle that kind of physical challenge but what sort of preparation do you need to have in terms of your bike support group and all that sort of thing and made me think a little bit about well what did it what do we need to do or what should be we what should we be doing that cycle is to get ready for whenever we ride there are some basic things that you should be doing to make sure that you're ready to ride safely and all your equipment is in good order and that you're prepared for anything that may happen to you all out riding flat tires and that sort of thing so personally I have kind of a regiment that I follow when I get ready to ride and actually when when Susan and I get ready to ride because I take care of both of our bikes make sure that they're ready to go but some very basic stuff you need to do with with with regard to your bike itself before you head out on the road the first thing I do is I make sure that our tires are inflated correctly and properly or at least up to the psi that I like to keep both my tires and Susan's at and so to begin with I pull off the tire pump and make sure Susan's bike front and rear tires and my front and rear tires are inflated to where I like them both to be I make sure that the chains are fairly clean take a paper towel and just wipe it across them and that gives me an idea of whether or not a chain cleaning or chain lead needs to be done soon just kind of a checklist item for me and the other thing obviously you didn't you need to kind of make sure that you have a good working order are the brakes on your bike obviously you want to make sure that they do they do work and they do work well not from a clothing standpoint what do you need to do to get ready to ride your bike well I guess it depends a lot on what the weather is gonna be like for you that day to determine whether or not you want to use shorts wear tights arms leg warmers jackets hats love etc I guess there's an axiom somewhere I forget where I've heard of that there's no such thing as bad weather only bad clothing or maybe more specifically wrong floating mentioned earlier that even though it is this today is the last day of summer we're gonna have summer-like weather like saw the summer-like weather around here for quite some time to come for the next week or so anyway so for me that means riding in short sleeves riding in my shorts I usually don't wear gloves not a big fan of wearing gloves even when it's hot and sweaty I understand that it's kind of a safety concern that your palms and your hands can get sweaty so you should wear gloves without fingers on them the first of all helped add your hands and then to help you keep help to keep you from sliding and slipping around in the event that your hands are getting all sweaty of course the other thing that I need to do to get ready for my bike rise is if I am taking the cameras up with me I have to get my GoPros all charged up at the SD cards cleaned up and make sure everything's locked and loaded correctly so that I can go out and shoot some video on that regard I kind of find my I found myself not taking out the cameras as much as I used to primarily be camp because I got a little frustrated with the idea of dragging along extra batteries with me and having to change the batteries on the road when the battery ran down and the GoPros now changing the battery obviously is no big deal I mean I'm not whining about that the thing that just kind of pissed me off every so often is the GoPro with signal to me that the battery is about to run down one and then go dead and that the video was gonna stop and normally if you're just riding along you'll hear that but generally if you're riding down a hill or something like that and here we are a chick with speech by the way it's a beautiful area getting back to the battery if if you're riding along and the wind is blowing or something in the MV and the the camera beeps that you're saying that there's a issue with the battery he'll most often you don't hear it and that's been my experience lately as I just don't hear it plus I've been noticing that GoPro lately the cameras really been heating up at the summer time so I've had the camera stopped on me either because the battery ran out and maybe was just running so hot that I ran home and it's been one of the reasons I cut down on shooting some videos I see employer fishing boats coming back into the harbor or no it's not that looks like a fire boat or that might be a Coast Guard billet can't quite see the lettering on it from the side looks like Coast
