Capstone education for iba admission test for money

Capstone education for iba admission test for money do my concordia capstone 2018 vetro calgary review movie ´╗┐my name is Laura kamoy and I'm a former professor the United States Naval Academy and now I'm a full-time novelist writing under the name Laura K before I was a full-time novelist I was an associate professor of history at the United States Naval Academy my area of expertise was early American history I had published one historical monograph that was based on my dissertation and I was in the middle of working on a new research project when my fiction career really took off well I have kind of a strange story about how I became a novelist I was always a big reader and I wrote a lot as a younger person but in 2008 I had a traumatic brain injury and as a result of that as I healed I had this new creative interest and writing a novel was one of the things that I started doing there's a lot of what I do now thats related to my history background certainly in terms of the writing that I do in terms of the research that my books now require in terms of the discipline that it takes to sit down and write every day those were all things that I learned through my training is an historian I write every day I try to write two to three thousand words a day as my my goal and if I do that I know approximately how long it should take me to write novels of different lengths so if I can hit 3,000 words a day for five days that means i should be able to hit a 90,000 to a hundred thousand word novel in about six to eight weeks when i was a graduate student at the College of William and Mary I had an apprenticeship in historical archaeology with the colonial williamsburg foundation and one of the things that archaeological training does is it teaches you how to look at the past in a different way and it teaches you how to use sources and manage imaginatively because the record is different from the documentary record and so that has definitely informed my writing because it is something that is based on imagination in a different kind of a way than documentary research it's really important to love what you do and I mean that in a couple of different ways I think it's really important to love the topic that you might choose for your dissertation because you going to live with that topic not just for however many years it takes to research and write the dissertation but in the process of turning that dissertation into a book you're going to continue to live with it and hopefully to love it so I think picking something that really engages your imagination and your passion is really key and as a novelist I would give the exact same kind of advice to pick the thing that you love because you will be living with it for quite some time and that also goes to careers as well I mean the traditional path within the history profession is to get your doctoral degree and then to go to the h.a an interview for faculty positions and go on through the career path for for the professor's but there are a lot of things that one can do with a history degree that could equally engage your passion and your imagination and learning what the variety of those paths are that are available I think is really important for today's graduate students because there are only so many jobs as professors available but there are quite a few different kinds of jobs for which history backgrounds are very useful so advice that I would offer to graduate students who are potentially interested in writing fiction is to read a lot in the areas in which you think you might be interested in trying to write the first thing you really should do is familiarize yourself with the genre that you're interested in with the kinds of books that you would potentially like to write yourself and then just right you can't revise what you haven't written and you can't sell what you haven't written and so the first real task as a novelist is just to write a book is just to get to the end the factors that make my particular career outside of the Academy as a novelist attractive are that mostly I get to set my own schedule and my own agenda I am essentially running a one-person small business as a novelist and so I get to be in control of all aspects of that I could I get to control the rate of productivity of my book so I get to control the you know degree with which my business grows and so forth and I find that very invigorating and very and something very different from my experience as a professor where it's sort of the tenure process controls a lot about your career you know the obligations for writing and service and and teaching that control a lot about your career so it's similar work in some ways but it's a it's a different source of control and I enjoy that a lot so one difference between what I do now as a novelist and what I did before as an historian has to do with who my books are aimed at and the way in which I engage with my readership so as an historian my books were largely aimed at other historians certainly you know the University Press did distribute those books to some bookstores but largely those books were either for other historians or they were for possible assignment in classes and there wasn't a lot of engagement with my readers beyond you know possible discussions with students or occasional questions you might get about your research via email but now in what I do as a novelist and I write in both the romance genre and I also write historical fiction there's a lot of engagement with the broader public and with a broad readership so one of the things that's different from being a historian in terms of the way that you might write a book and go about getting it published and out there to the public is that the University Press process tends to work differently from the traditional fiction publication process for the most part in order to be published by the big New York publishers that distribute print books to bookstores you need a literary agent and there are various ways to go about finding literary agents one of which is that you can go online to a website called query tracker which lists all the various literary agents and what they're looking for what their areas of expertise are what they represent what they don't represent and identify people who represent the kinds of books you want to write you can also go to the acknowledgement sections of books that are like the ones you're writing and see well who are the literary agents that represent these books but for the most part to get a New York publisher to publish and distribute your book you need a literary agent and that's not something that we're at all trained to be able to do or to know to do as historians because the process of submitting to university presses tends to work differently that's something that authors can do themselves as historians so that's a little bit of a different scenario to be aware of if you're interested in writing fiction there are other opportunities to be published that don't require a literary agent there are smaller boutique publishers that sometimes accept what they call on agented submissions and there are also the possibility in some genres to self publish directly to Amazon and nook and some of the other retail sites so it depends a lot on what you're writing which is the West best way to go which is the way that's going to give you the best opportunity to become published and that's going to take some research into your genre and the kind of thing that you are writing to know which is the best way to go so the advice that I might offer graduate students who are interested in writing books novels in particular is to read widely to live interesting lives to have interesting experiences because those are the experiences that you could bring into the lives of your characters and the plots of your books to read about things that interest you because from those you may find really interesting historical characters or other kinds of situations that you could spring a really interesting novel out of but I think that you know you don't have to be an historian to do what I do but that the history background does a lot to train you for being a novelist whether it's a historical fiction author or novelist and another kind of genre there's a lot about what we do as historians that prepares us to write really good books and to tell really engaging stories microsoft office 2019 capstone project 1 for money Professional Business College.
