Write for me capstone bd capstone sales forecast spreadsheet excel abc female sports reporters in mens locker [Music] winter storm Benji is helping some people get ready for the Winter Olympics check out this kid skiing in Atlanta because you got a little bit of it on Friday the kids got a little extra time on Saturday so so much of it stuck around by the afternoon guess what school tomorrow kids half past the hour right now is weekend recharge roles on on Maria LaRosa and I'm Paul good know that fresh snow helping to keep temperatures on the cold side all across the eastern US this morning in fact take a look and some wrote our cans if you haven't poked your head outside this morning put a hat on it ball state across the eastern third of the nation that's right we have in places in the south where temperature is running 10 to 20 degrees below average low 20s in Nashville this morning 30s on the coast for Charleston and South Carolina even Destin Florida beach town favorite fell to 40 degrees this morning and Paul Miami had a wind chill in the 40s I know it doesn't sound like a big deal but that's yeah truthfully there actually is a wind chill warning across Central Florida that's Florida standards if you're anywhere else in the country say a north of Florida thinking really-really Florida but everything is relevant locally so 29 right now at Allina 31 in Raleigh 26 in Nashville the snowpack helping to keep things a lot chillier here across the southeast tomorrow morning most people above freezing but look at this Tallahassee 30 degrees tomorrow morning you're colder than Atlanta well major melting going on even Tuesday morning we're cool until the blast of cold air comes through late Tuesday into Wednesday and cools is back into the 20s so another freeze coming through and it sticks around into your Thursday for many areas so the morning lows definitely on the cold side so kids to the bus stop need to bundle up highs today a lot warmer than yesterday because a lot more snowmelt bare ground and then by tomorrow temperatures getting back to average before the next cold plunge comes through as we head on towards the middle of the week Nashville I got averages 51 we're close to that today above that tomorrow and then here comes a blast of cool air again before we slowly start climbing back close to average as we head there was a latter part of next week and definitely next weekend all right Paul and now all of that colder air setting the stage for another round of snow on the way dr. Greg Postel takes a look ahead attack right Maria thank you very much we have snow coming in out of the Northwest from Canada into the lower 48 check out the trajectory though of snowfall accumulation right over the next couple of days within the next 48 hours or so there it is you can see clearly coming out on Manitoba Saskatchewan and Alberta there we go all that snow is coming this way and will be accompanied by some wind as well so find your spot on the map winter is making yet another appearance in this part of the world and right now this morning early afternoon you'll be able to see it on the satellite pictures is a bunch of high clouds and not a ton of moisture oftentimes to these systems they dry out a little bit as they move over the Western Rockies of the Canadian Prairies and then down sloping all the way in to parts of the Upper Midwest but it will be enough there will be enough juice there to provide some snow a couple of inches along the way and for example International Falls Duluth twin cities Chicago Madison Milwaukee Green Bay you'll get your snow later on tonight and tomorrow and then it moves over the lakes it will be see some lake enhance snow some lake effect snow and also some snow weather systems snow moving into New York State Pennsylvania and New England as well but notice the coast probably stays mild enough to be mostly rain or a mix it looks like the snow will be reserved for more interior sections of the Northeast with some coastal development taking place too during the day on Tuesday that's gonna be a trip we're gonna want to watch this potential development of new low pressure into the Gulf of Maine if it's a little bit stronger a little farther offshore that could bring some snow closer to the coast right now it seems to be in tight enough so that we get enough mild air on the i-95 corridor for example on Monday night and Tuesday but significant snows for the ski resorts that's very good news for them Western mountains of Maine green white mountains and also the Adirondacks good stuff here several inches perhaps more than six inches in some spots Maria and Paul back to you guys Greg thank you winter weather from freezing rain to snow and sleet our big problem makers Reynolds wolf explains how each one can create havoc winter is here and that means snow but you know what that's not the only form of precipitation you can get this time of year I'm here with State Farm Technology Research director Chris Mullin to explain how we get snow sleet and freezing rain and why ice happens to be potentially the most dangerous and that's right Reynolds you know winter weather can cause large power outages slip and fall injuries and just makes travel treacherous it certainly can let's talk about those three different types of we winter precipitation and let's begin with snow fault no snow this is the coolest of all Ridgway snow forms high up in the atmosphere let's say way up here like 10,000 feet or so so as long as the entire atmosphere is below the freezing point all the way to the ground you're going to get beautiful beautiful snowflakes but here's where there's a wrinkle if there's a warm layer in the atmosphere the snow can actually melt but if there's a cold layer right below it these wet flakes or raindrops actually freeze and they land as sleet pellets now another wrinkle if that cold layer is not deep enough to the precipitation makes this all mix away it's all the way down to the surface where the temperature is equal to or actually below 32 degrees and then you've got ice everywhere and that is where you have all the problems that's right so you know these icy roads are responsible for hundreds of fatalities each year it's best not to drive at all during an ice storm but if you do find yourself in icy conditions don't use cruise control understand your vehicle you know snow tires and four-wheel drive that can help get you going but it is not gonna help you stop everything is colder than 32 degrees you see everything collecting ice one of those temporal areas well you just saw right there the trees you have quarter inch of ice can increase the weight of a branch if it three hundred percent right and this is another reason why it's a good idea to have your car in a garage during the winter never worm your car in a closed garage remember to make sure you know how to manually open your garage if your power is out also coat the rubber seal with either a silicone or cooking spray so you can open it when it freezes what a great idea never knew that one speaking of power going out ice can quickly grow on power lines and cause outages in fact get those between the poles a quarter-inch of ice can add 500 pounds of additional weight that's right so if you do lose power this winter and you don't have a backup generator be sure to have flashlights on hand instead of using an open flame have extra batteries with you also on manual can opener to open non-perishable food lastly keep your pipes in mind open the cabinet doors below the sinks start a slow drip and that will help keep them from freezing hmm all good tips to keep you prepared and make life go right after the storm this winter when it snows kids love to play it when they come inside all wet from their gloves to the boots we have a great item to dry out your kids gear and other wonderful gift ideas that's coming up [Music] do my capstone projects dnp Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
