University of alabama capstone creed capstone turbine darren jamison for money unrequited love essay hey everybody its Brooke with super tutor TV and today what I'm going to do is walk you through some of the best ideas that I have for those who are self prepping for the a CT the way that I'm going to go about doing this is I'm going to go through four categories of learners and within those four categories of learners I'm going to suggest how you might approach studying for the a CT so the first kind of student that I'm going to talk about is what I called the rusty student what I mean by this is that you've had skills in the past but maybe you just haven't practiced those skills in a while you may have taken geometry but you took it four years ago who knows when you took it but you've forgotten it you might have learned all the grammar rules in English subject verb agreement pronoun agreement antecedents all that good stuff but it's been awhile and so you kind of forget it if that's you the best thing that you can do is practice and find what I'd call content drills what I mean by content rules especially for the math and the grammar section is drills that identify specific types of problems that maybe you haven't done in a while and you do them over and over and over again figure out what it is that you're struggling with figure it out what it is that's taking you so long that shouldn't be taking you so long and go and find worksheets to Trellick Google them on the internet whatever you have to do drill those things you can get a workbook that's just for the AC T or you can actually go back to your schoolbooks drill all the things that you're not a hundred percent on even if you think you know what they are the next kind of student I'm going to talk about is the slowpoke a lot of people on the AC T have trouble because this test is wickedly time the two sections that I find that students have the most trouble with when it comes to timing or the science and reading sections followed by the math section so what to do about this one of the best things that you can do is practice practice practice the more you practice with the timer the better you're going to get at timing yourself and keeping pace if timing yourself alone doesn't solve your SLO problem then there are some other issues that you can consider and there's also some other solutions you can consider one thing you can think about is how are you approaching the problems right in the science section if you watch my number one secret if it's don't read the passage before you get into things so long as you're not doing that you're going to pick up a little bit of extra time but if that's not enough time and you're still behind you might need to change your process right how are you approaching these problems and is that approach getting you what you need to to find you might have to make some adjustments you might have to be creative you can adopt different strategies you can skim a little bit you can read a little bit see what works best for you and experiment so that you can maximize your score in terms of pacing but the next kind of person that I'm going to talk about is somebody who is easily confused a confused might read a science passage and go oh my god that didn't make any sense or they might read a reading passage and go oh my goodness I don't understand what that means if this is the case the best thing to do for yourself is try to figure out why are you confused there are several things that might be going on on the math section it may be that there's just types of problems that you never learned or you never figured out how to do you might not know how to do probability statistics questions if so again you need to find a good workbook or find some resource so that you can learn how to do those kinds of problems if you're confused on the reading section or you're just not getting the reading passages often what I find is that people have vocabulary issues so I know there's no vocabulary tested on this test but if you're having trouble with comprehension I would recommend that you invest in a vocabulary book of some sort check out our new monix video it's going to give you not only a great way to learn vocabulary but toward the end I also recommend some books that are good if you're a foreign speaker I recommend you check out a series called worldly-wise 3000 they've got tons of books they got free word lists on the internet you can check out even if you're confused on the science section what I find is slowing down is probably your best asset at first if you're totally confused and you're pushing yourself and you're trying to finish everything on time are the best things you can do is just slow the test way down so that you could actually get each problem yes you're not going to be able to do this thing slow all the time but by slowing down you're going to start to understand how the test works you're going to get used to it and then you're going to be able to speed up it's kind of like piano practice you don't instantly sit down with sheet music and play the hardest piece at full speed immediately what you do is you slow down and you practice that one really difficult section over and over and over until you get it and then you speed up the same applies to the a CT finally the last kind of person that I'm going to talk about is the careless one if you're a careless person or you find that all you do is make tons of careless errors there is hope for you what I like to call careless error sometimes is process errors it's not just carelessness it's the fact that you didn't catch your carelessness come up with ways to create safety nets you have to set up little rules for yourself so that you're extra thorough and extra cautious and you catch yourself before you make a mistake on the English section your safety net may be that you always force yourself to read the entire sentence from front to back and that you identify certain types of questions that you have to get more context for right you might have to read a little bit up or a little bit down so that you don't miss some critical lead-in or detail or something that's going to clue you in for the math a safety net might be that you reread the question before you put the answer on the science fiction this might be reading every word it might mean circling important details it might mean taking little notes it might mean going through the problem underlining each word as you match it up with the other detail on the science section but you've got to learn to be more cautious or you're not going to be able to avoid those careless errors and you need to do careful practice meaning you need to get out more tests and practice and practice and practice and figure out ways to combat that carelessness so I hope that this was helpful if you like this video please give it a thumbs up subscribe to our youtube channel and also go over to super tutor TV and subscribe to our mailing list we have lots of cool things in the works we're working on some books we're working on an entire prep video
