Term paper on welding technology order do my capstone library app for android title loan cover letter justify turns ramen front good magic enough four-wheel drive with 3/16 to go but justify in Mike Smith are digging down so justify won the Kentucky Derby this year will he go on to the Preakness can he go on to the Preakness and if he does what kind of shape is he gonna be in let's take a look at track us and see just how hard justify worked in this race remember trakis is a radio signal that produced by a transmitter in the saddle class of every horse in the race and then transformed into the data you see here now keep in mind that 12 second per furlong standard that's the number we go by then that'll help you judge whether the pace is fast or slow whether it's longer than 12 seconds or shorter than 12 seconds trakis also shows miles per hour for the speed during the race and 12 seconds for an eighth of a mile translates to 37 point five miles per hour so in the first quarter mile of the Kentucky Derby this year that's two furlongs two eighths of a mile that's two times 12 seconds so 24 seconds is the standard we're looking at the time for this quarter mile was 22 point 24 seconds very fast anything under 23 seconds that's a quick quarter-mile promises fulfilled was on the lead he went 1320 seven feet in that first quarter mile justify was a foot behind him with 1328 feet he was just for one hundredths of a second slower than promises fulfilled at 22 point 28 seconds notice the average speed was forty point seven miles per hour for this quarter mile four promises fulfilled justify forty point six miles per hour the peak speed for the entire race was during that first quarter mile probably in the second 16th of a mile and for both promises fulfilled and justify it was 42.5 miles per hour here's a look at the first quarter mile the track has been sealed that means it's compressed so that the water runs off into the center field as opposed to being absorbed by the track so that makes the track faster and that will contribute to these fast fractions for the first quarter mile and first half mile at this early point in the race a lot of people including Bob Baffert we're thinking this is an awfully quick pace are these horses on the lead gonna have anything left at the end of the race in the second quarter mile we can see that the speed is dropped promises fulfilled thirty-eight point four miles per hour justify thirty eight point nine but he is still half a length behind promises fulfilled and even though the speed is faster the reason for that is justify traveled twenty two feet further than promises fulfilled but that is still a pretty quick pace thirty seven point five miles per hour would be a 12-second furlong these guys are going 38.4 thirty eight point nine the time for this half mile is forty five point seventy seven for promises fulfilled forty five point eighty six seconds for justified compare that to the forty eight seconds of a 12-second furlong times four it's a very fast half-mile in fact Bob Baffert said to his wife Jill that forty six seconds was way too fast and Jill corrected him and said I'm sorry it's forty five seconds no I want you to keep something in mind Secretariat holds the record for the Kentucky Derby that time was one minute 59 and 4/5 second in one hundred and forty four Kentucky Derby's only two horses went faster than two minutes and the other horse was Monaco's who went in one fifty nine point nine seven second a mile and a quarter at 12 second furlongs means two minutes flat for the Kentucky Derby these horses are going almost two and a half seconds faster for the first half mile than that average of 12 seconds of furlong which was 48 history shows that there is no way they're going to continue with that pace and of course they don't justify takes over the lead thirty six point one miles per hour promises fulfilled average thirty five point nine justify is slowed down by about four miles per hour imagine you're driving your car forty miles per hour and you slow down to thirty five you're gonna feel that difference and I don't know if these riders do and heat of the race but that's a dramatic change after three-quarters of a mile justify is in front promises fulfilled has traveled 23 feet less than justified the speed has dropped now to 36 point one miles per hour an hour 12 second per furlong pace three-quarters of a mile would be a minute and 12 seconds justify is eleven point oh one second so he's just about a full second faster than that 12 second pace we'll jump ahead to the final quarter mile of the race and we'll see the speed drop dramatically to thirty three point eight miles per hour compare that to the 37.5 of a 12 second pace and the time of that final quarter mile four justify twenty six point 85 seconds the first quarter-mile was twenty two point twenty four so there is almost four and a half seconds difference in time the old and not particularly accurate rule of thumb is one seconds equals five lengths that's more than 20 lengths difference I think you can see in this video how much justify has slowed down here he is looking very tired and well he should be this is the first time he's gone a mile and a quarter it's the first time he's gone over a track with this kind of mud and rain and water and this is also the first time he's been in a field of 20 horses the combination of fatigue and a very hard harder than normal racetrack can be a big factor in injuries and sure enough justify came out of this race with a bruised heel on the left hind foot there was a video posted on the blood horse website that showed justified the day after the Kentucky Derby and you could clearly see him limping on the left hind and you could see if he looked closely he steps on the toe of the left hind foot and doesn't want to put that foot down flat on the gravel he was walking on so I think the story of the bruised heel is probably accurate in this photograph taken by an uber heart you can see the different shoes the right foot is normally shot the left foot has a 3/4 shoe a piece has been cut off and that piece that's missing would have been under the inside heel of the left hind foot and that missing piece takes the pressure off the heel of the foot when it's resting on the ground you can see here there's o more than a quarter of an inch clearance between the ground and the back of the foot where that left heel ball bit this is generally not a serious injury the Baffert team is really good at taking care of this kind of stuff I don't think it's going to be a factor in the Preakness they may even have them back on regular shoes by the day of the Preakness next Saturday so I don't think this is going to be much of a factor in the Preakness Stakes and the horse looks otherwise in good condition his weight seems to have held up I don't think there's anything out there that can beat him now since I wasn't at the Derby I don't have any good video to show a comparison of his body before and after the Derby but from what I've seen online he looks to be maintaining his weight quite well I'm sure he lost maybe 20 pounds or so after that long mile and a quarter race but he's he's looking pretty good I think he's the horse to beat in the Preakness well we'll do another video later on this week when we know for sure which horses will be in the Preakness and in the meantime I hope this video helps you understand what's going on with justify and thank you for watching subscribe if you have it good luck at the races and if you get a chance to take a look at our videos about Lord Admiral they may give you a little more information and a little more insight into what's going on in thoroughbred racing thanks for watching how to plan a capstone project Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson.
