Public health research topics papers order write for me access 2016 capstone project ac 2 solutions creating effective presentations using microsoft office hello what's up you guys so I just got in from work and I have to make a really quick video because I have to eat and this evening i have a meeting for my volunteer organization that I'm a part of by anyways a question that I get asked a lot is gaby how the heck do you live in Korea when you don't speak Korean fluently or Gabby do you need to know Korean in order to be an English teacher in Korea and I want to answer those questions in this video so first and foremost no you do not know you do not need to be fluent in Korean or you don't need to even know basic or intermediate Korean before you come to Korea through work so let me explain a little bit how it works um basically when you come here to teach English your job is to speak English one hundred percent of the time so they don't actually want you to speak Korean to your students and also when you are placed in a public school like I am you are given a co-teacher and that co-teacher ideally and usually can speak English and is the middleman between you and your school so in any business that needs to be taken care of at your school your coal teacher will make sure that all of that is processed and done because of course since they are Korean they can speak Korean and English on your behalf but anyways there are some people who come to Korea and they teach here for several years and never master Korean or don't even get past basic korean yes it is it's not ideal it's inconvenient but if you if that happens to you you can still get around in Korea okay and you can still live a good life in Korea and also I don't think people understand how much time you spend with other foreigners when you move to korea some people give this picture of like moving to korea as being an isolating event where it's just you and like all these koreans and you need to learn the language in order to talk to anyone or have any type of light but that's not how it is there's so many English speakers from different countries that are here teaching English you know doing other jobs or a student here so you don't have to you're not really forced to learn Korean honestly and plus a lot of people here know at least basic English like me I live in the countryside and either when I go to stores and restaurants the Koreans who live here they at least know like the very basic english word so you know if I didn't like if I had no interest in learning any Korean which by the way I think that's kind of rude for you to move to a country and like don't put any effort in to learning the language however if I was that type of person I could completely survive here and get along well um so a few tips that I have for anyone who doesn't know Korean but they are thinking about moving here for work first is get Google Translate app on your phone is help me out so many times I could not like navigate throughout the country without it even if I just need help with simple words or phrases or if I'm looking for a specific item at the store let's say for example I was looking for spinach the other day I just google translated it and I came up with a word and you can even show the word or the screen to Koreans and they can help you um something else is try to learn the basics so I just want to share a few basic phrases or what I think are the basic phrases you should at least master when you are in your first few months living in Korea or before if you can hello annyeonghaseyo very basic you need to not say hello thank you can somni dad how much because when you're going in stores and restaurants you need to know the price of items so you can ask for my AO how much early my oh um and this is really really helpful for everywhere when you go to a store and you want to buy a certain clothing item when you're at a restaurant this please so you can point to the item and just say ego jus say oh and that means this please and juice eh oh can be added to anything to make it sound more kind and appropriate because it just means like please and then when you're in a cab you need to know how to do or say direction so right is orange oak left is win joke and straight or go straight is cheap gin and you should also learn how to say your name so Jonin Gabby in meda that's my name jounin name in meda and you should know how to say where you're from ideally and there's some there's very few occasions where you need to know the language or you need a Korean speaker to accompany you in order to get anything done and those occasions or the situations that I found most difficult being in not being fluent in Korean is when I go to the doctors or a hospital when you're sick you almost always need to go with the Korean speaker if your doctor does not speak English and in a lot of cases they won't so you know you really need to clearly explain what's going on so you need to take a Korean speaker and also when you are making your bank account for the first time um most of the people in the bank are not going to know English especially if you're living outside of Seoul when you make a get your bank account you need to speak you need to take a Korean speaker and your co teacher will probably go with you if you're at a public school and if you're having any apartment issues now this is what I found really frustrating not knowing the language I've wanted to communicate different issues with my lanta loner and I just couldn't and it's really frustrating especially if there's like a problem and I really want them to come and fix it and they've been slacking on that um it would really be good if I could tell them that in Korean however it's very difficult because most of the land owners here or the ones that I've had so far I have not spoke english so you need a Korean to help you to you know speak about any issues or questions that you have regarding your place of residence when you go to Korea so yeah google translate learn the basics and also make Korean friends because not only is it cool and a like nice way to ingrain into the culture more but also they can help you out when you have questions or when you need that Korean friends will accompany you to have them certain business and it's fine because there'll be a trade-off though most likely also ask you how to say different things in English as well so you won't feel like you're like taking advantage or anything but yeah having korean friends will definitely make your life in Korea that much easier i hope this video answered your questions and once again i just want to reiterate that yes you can teach in korea and not know a lick of korean i know it sounds weird it's inconvenient and you know your life won't be the easiest but it's possible for you to come here and not know the language and get around just fine but once again i do encourage you to at least learn the basics or you know at least try to appreciate the culture in the language because someone came to your country and they didn't put any effort into learning your language you wouldn't think that was okay but anyways if you guys have any more questions make sure to comment below this is blog member number i have about 11 more to go so make sure you stay tuned i have video topics and interesting stuff coming daily so i'll talk to you later bye capstone media youtube order Union Theological Seminary.
