create lifestyle videos here on YouTube if you are interested in seeing my future content if you like this video make sure to hit that subscribe button so you don't miss out on any future videos and I also have a lifestyle blog which is in modern Molly comm and I post on that multiple times a week I will have the link in the description box today's video is the start of an organizational series and I'm going to be taking you through different areas of my small apartment in New York City and showing you tips to help organize and make your space more efficient I'm starting off with this video which as you can tell from the title is the kitchen video I'm also going to be doing a living room video and a bedroom video and then after those organizational videos I'm gonna have an updated apartment tour so I think that is everything we're gonna go ahead and get into this video as you may or may not know I live in New York City in a one-bedroom apartment with my fiance Joe it is a really small space but we are trying to make it more homey and efficient feeling and not feel so cramped and I moved in a couple months before he did so I got a chance to set everything up and now that he's been here for a little while we're trying to incorporate his things a little bit more so that's a little bit more cohesive in our space we decided that one of our New Year's resolutions would be to make our space a lot more organized and we actually started on the first and kind of just took apart our apartment a little bit and got rid of a lot of things and just dealt with a lot of things that we weren't really using and then that night I happened to start reading at this book which a lot of people have recommended and this is the life changing manic magic of tidying up and this is by Marie Kondo I will link this video in the description box in case you are interested in it I've heard a lot of mixed reviews about this book so I wasn't sure I picked it up during Black Friday and finally started reading it once we actually started organizing our place and a lot of people have said that she's a little extreme and her methods and then other people have said it's an absolutely amazing book so I wasn't really sure what to think I'm only partial part of the way through it so far but I'm really getting a lot out of it and a quote that I heard a while back was eat the fish and spit out the bones meeting take away certain messages from it maybe you don't believe everything but just take away certain aspects of it and incorporate that into your life so just whatever you don't agree with you don't have to go by in your life and I think that mentality has really helped me get a lot of this book I'm not going to be as organized as she is but I think I can take away a lot from this so this book actually brings me into my first tip which is works for all areas of your house and that is to find a spot that each item in your home belongs and if you have a spot for each specific item then you're never really gonna get too messy if it goes out of place then you know exactly where to put it back as opposed to like my kind of system that I used to have where I my desk or my table or something like that would end up getting really cluttered because anything where I wasn't really sure to put it would end up there and that it looks really messy and then you're sort of perpetually in this really dirty or not dirty but disorganized space and so I thought that was a really good tip and that was something that after I've read that portion of the book which is near the beginning I immediately was like okay this is gonna be sort of our mentality for the rest of this process and so that was really helpful and kind of applies to all areas of your home another tip were if specifically if you're in a small apartment is to make use of the walls and kind of work your way up so by that I mean hanging pots and pan hanging your pot holders really making use of the wall because you don't have a lot of cabinet space and we don't have any drawers in our kitchen because it's really a small space another thing that we did is get our pantry really organized and what I did first was take absolutely everything off the shelves it was a total mess for laid everything out and then started putting things back and then I kind of made different sections for each shelf so that I would know what type of food would go there if it's like baking stuff or if it's stuff for dinner or if it's spices that kind of thing and then again with that working your way up method I got this shelf layered shelf I don't know what you would call it only get down below I got it on Amazon and it had different sort of tiers to it and we use that for our spices and that really uses space really efficiently and makes it really easy to see all of our spices a lot something I recommend also if you're in a small apartment I would recommend having airtight containers we got ours specifically from Amazon they're the oxide brand and we use them for stuff like flour we also work at I use some of our beverages into there so we have one for our tea 1 for our K Cups and one for other drinks like cocoa packets or we have like mulling spices stuff like that and that keeps everything really organized and you know where to go to look for each thing as opposed to our system of before which wasn't really a system but we had everything kind of all over the place and it just wasn't very efficient for finding things and stuff was always falling over so that's sort of what I recommend for that area another thing is to keep your space clean as much as possible doing dishes right away because they will really add up quickly we just find that when we do dishes more frequently or when we like being sure to clean up right away after we cook something the space just looks overall a lot neater as opposed to having things pile up because they pile up so another tip that I have is keeping your pots and pans in these oven if you want to we use our oven but we don't use it all the time so that can be a really good storage spot for your pots and pans when you're not using them and it will keep them from being cluttered all over the stove another tip is to use I don't know how to put this but like use small spaces so we have some room next to our microwave on either side and that's where I store some baking trays and I will actually just wrap them in like a grocery bag because New York City apartments get really dusty really quickly so I just take a clean grocery bag and wrap it around the pan or the muffin tin or whatever and then I will just have that next to the microwave and you're using I'm glad space you're making sure whatever the item is stays clean and it's just something that's worked out really well that I've been doing since I moved in so that is everything for this video I hope that you found it helpful if you're interested in seeing the other videos they will be up in the next few weeks during the month of January if you like this video make sure to give it a thumbs up and subscribe to my channel if you are new here and I will see you next time I hope you're being good day what is a capstone experience order Webb Institute, Glen Cove.
