Nursing capstone project examples order do my capstone dormitory at usc professional cv review uk okay turn to somebody to your left and give them a kiss that's what that you know what that's what the bim form is all about is hugging and kissing hello I'm John tachi from tachi building companies welcome to Boston it's a great week to be in Boston those of you who have had the opportunity to see the marathon I'm sure have been blessed by the spirit there and this is a great talent welcome to our town so this bin forum conference is rich and wonderful and marks yet another phase of development in maturity of the BIM form we're going to share a little bit about the history of the BIM forum for folks who are new let's start by finding out who's here how many people are here for the first time at a BIM forum event yep just like every time it's like fifty percent it's wonderful ok how many folks are from our architectural community it's great engineering community it's great contractors construction managers k trade partners and subcontractors okay owners owners great welcome welcome and then support folks like insurance and legal okay thanks okay great one of the things that we'd like to do is encourage people to connect and network as you've already seen the bim form is nine years old and a community has developed within the bim form sphere and univ and it's a community of people that help each other assist each other provide guidance and direction together I've never seen in my 40 years in the construction business a topic that penetrates the silos and the protective barriers even between similar firms who are competing firms to share best practices together there's been truly an unselfish of behavior and spirit and a sense that a rising tide lifts all boats and the things that we're doing are important for our individual companies in our continued success but they're even more important for the vitality of the industry in returning nobility to a once noble profession of design and construction that has kind of lost its way so it would encourage you to to reach out introduce yourself to folks prior to one of the brakes we're going to stop and this is a surprise to the to the conference planners but we're going to stop and we're going to ask people to stand up and Exchange to business cards go go to somebody that is at a different table or at your table that you don't know and present your business card present your business card chinese-style two hands and and you will receive it accordingly with with due respect and put that card away because you'll probably find that exchange of contact information valuable in the future and so we'll do that a couple times and so now we'll get into the actual history to give all the people that are here for the first time a little bit of grounding and background so let me grab this thing here that's the original bim forum convened in 1948 no no who is that's that that's that's the movie 12 Angry Men and that's the group there was 12 people that started the BIM forum actually in Memphis I don't know why we were in Memphis in July and it was about a hundred and four degrees but that's where we were and we were kind of angry because of the temperature but we were really excited about engaging a whole new thing called Building Information modeling and it came out of a private industry advisory council meeting which is an agc public private consortium and we had a presentation on the Letterman building lucasfilm's Letterman building about a 300 plus million dollar project that was built back in nineteen 2004-2005 and it had just recently completed and it was the first project that we had heard a presentation on where they talked about federated building information models that there was clash detection going on on an organized way there was a model manager introduced to the project all kind of concepts that we take for granted now but this project was really a pioneer and a gentleman who was the vice president of facilities for for lucasfilm's a gentleman by the name of Tom Brady how appropriate that we're talking about it here aiza is a famous builder he's not a famous quarterback he led this whole process and explained to us what the ROI was on on the clashes and the change orders avoided the schedule savings etc etc we finished that he finished his presentation and left the meeting and it was really a silence that fell on on the audience anybody who whose cell phone goes off buys everybody a beer that's that's the deal as the real so um it could be really expensive here so anyway at that at that meeting instead of going on to the next agenda item AGC leadership associated general contractor's of America leadership said wait a second what we just heard is a game changer we just can't go on to the next item we need to deal with us and what was its that's where the BIM forum started as a strategic task force to understand what this BIM stuff was so back in 2005 is when it started and it was really phase one which was I call what is this good stuff and how do I get it in me and so we understood about basic project project management associated with Building Information modelling we studied the denver art museum with led by Mortensen and other industry leaders then in two thousand a week about 2008 actually a year before that across the river here in Boston we established what's now called them execution plan that was born out of the BIM form and now again has become an industry standard because we realized that in order to do all this work it meant that meant that we had to work together so we entered phase two of the maturity of the BIM forum and it was we realized that it really was all about working together not just mastering the technology and the tool so in 2011 working together meant inviting partners in and they joined the bim form and is a valuable partner in supporter of the bim form and we took it to the next level as far as studying integrated project delivery and highly collaborative collaborative project delivery as well as we realized more and more that it was about ten percent sociology our ten percent technology and ninety percent sociology so how we work together and we got into studying things like the human factors of BIM because you can't do this stuff without being a good person and sharing your data and taking cold responsibility for the outcome so we did that in 2012 we have a charter that is making us an organ organization with some structure and some governance and we're entering a new phase but we hit phase three of the content which is wait a second now that we understand what it takes to use the tools not that we're expert in it now we understand that it's all about working together using the tools it opened up a Vista for us and we can finally address the fact that together as an industry we can get much better at delivering a product that meets our clients expectations in honors our joint promises that we make during the marketing phase so reducing change orders eliminating change orders managing claims the delivering better design buildings and really pleasing and delighting our clients is the phase that we now and that's what this conference is really about is that next phase of high-performance design than high-performance construction to deliver buildings that are more sustainable easier to operate and delight the occupants so we're really excited about this conference in particular and we welcome welcome you to it so we're going to just skip through all this stuff and without further ado I'm going to invite the conference chairs which is a Laura handler from tachi building companies here in boston and james Van Der Zandt from hok in New York who have co-chaired this conference and you're going to appreciate all the work that went into it and the great speakers that are here thanks capstone construction wyoming Bethel Seminary of the East.
