Do my internet of things stock images ap capstone application essay for money d3 js basic examples of thesis my name is Brent Daniels and I'm a producer composer sound designer and recording artist I also write music for film and over yeah I'm also a huge advocate for liberal arts education and education in general so for many years now a big part of my music career has been working with students of all ages at schools across the United States I hosted my own show called music technology at thousands of schools across the country I think last year I crossed the million students mark so over a million students and faculty have I've seen my show there are so many methods of creating sound and music electronically nowadays we have hardware electronic instruments like synthesizers we have modular synthesizers keyboard workstations beat boxes of course desktop and laptop computers running all manner of advanced creative software tools and now we have amazing music being created by artists and producers using a new generation of powerful and affordable mobile computing devices and this technology is used to produce and record and deliver quite a lot of what we listen to almost everything so my goal in designing my music technology show was to expose students to this process to show them some of the fundamentals of modern electronic music production and sound design and to let them know that they now have access to these same powerful tools and they have them right there in their classrooms I grow a lot of schools now who use iPads in the classroom and with a tablet device like that you have access to a whole recording studio at an app like GarageBand so what I'm trying to do with my show is pull back the curtain on a process that that we all hear all day long and everything we listen to I'm demonstrating a primary method of sound design called digital sampling and using students as the sources or the sound design it's basically taking sound from our environment and manipulating it digital it's fascinating it's really entertaining and especially because despite digital samplings prevalence in modern music production going back 30 years now it's something 99% of students are completely unfamiliar with what you hear who we like to eat food hi hi we're gonna buy apple pie go ahead I like to eat apple pie at keep a bond with that right there we have a sentence this is now what to do all your quality sound file you guys you sound loud all the time I like to eat spaghetti meatball and that can hold down for a perfect it thank you I like to eat spaghetti me music oh snap higher higher or lower sounding their voices and then throughout the course the show I'm actually producing a song a piece of music created almost entirely out of out of what we're doing very in the room today oh and you're ranging Geraghty to think of a sound let's do this 1 2 3 I like for that right here this is actually very useful I'll have students come up the audience and make like the weirdest noise they can possibly think of which is funny but also very easy for a fifth grader to do awesome did that give it that one there man hold it down longer that was awesome let's try that lower I like it our Abba junior or senior singer come up who's in band or or has a band or maybe season choir having a sing a riff or a phrase then we'll grab that and put them to a try yeah Oh I'll grab Group sounds the whole audience and not turn those sounds into you know massive impacts or percussion sounds to make rhythms wait John hang on hold that thought you stedy clapping stomp your feet stick your feet out don't stand up just stick your feet out one two three that was awesome alright cross your legs again now you can say something that everyone say often say hey one two three that was us humming all right all right we got a stub and a clap and up backward Hey and that's just you guys there are any real sound there no that's just the human voice and your hands and feet this is a very powerful sound having a student beatboxing is awesome then you get some great great drum samples that way that's good but now do it without saying boom this new letter just air like I can put our keys there like that that was great not giving a kung fu punch excellent give a big hand that's good couple more you're great I think I want to change some of these sounds and play it on program a beat so in take this sound you made and make it lower or lower the pitch where to put it down here we also have a punch a couple punches this is great we turn it up this is a great drum sounds you made takes a base out of that too perfect the great job and he did the running man what more can you ask for the goal is to demonstrate not only the creation and manipulation of sound using technology but also the application how we we take that raw material and turn that into music by the end of the show we've created a unique piece of music the content and delivery of the show varies depending on the age group I tend to include more technical information or for middle and definitely high school students elementary school audiences tend to respond in a much more animated way than the older students so as soon as you start playing a beat they'll they'll start bouncing up and down and so we like to take that opportunity even that happens to invite those that wish to they come up on stage and show us their best for advancing moves which is always entertaining Oh you I also designed my show as kind of a stealth delivery method for a really important message I want students know how important their education is how important is the figler and how to learn and it's timely that stealthy actually I pretty much come out and say that in my show your education is super important that's what the rest of the show not only how important their education is for the home board in mind was for me to do what I'm doing to do what I'm showing them music composition and production is all math and science physics how sound works what it is promising skills computer science skills disciplined work habits which really come directly from great study habits and instrumental practice the electrical engineering and on and on these are all things I literally say in my show but I think the design of my show is such that despite this the heavy education message students don't feel like they're being lectured to because everyone's having a great time and and having a great time learning something and make it short writing sound of anywhere with these fast so instead of something like this we happen that maybe the waterfront may be mixing with with that I like that one let's get the honking sound out of the end there now it's how they got honk ooh say who's strong let's get rid of that make that louder I make it lower put it down here never really think a sack and then going back to the classroom teachers now have a ton of jumping-off points for discussion across most subjects and math science history of course we use it you know growing up I had the benefit of an excellent education and phenomenal teachers it's a big part of why I am Who I am and a big part of why I have a career of music at all so if I can inspire students to look at their education and look at their teachers the tools around them in a new light if I can inspire them to use those tools and that makes me happy that's why I did it I'm Donna Pellegrino I'm and our teacher here at alj New Jersey I loved it I'll tell you for me it was one of the best I think the show was awesome I think the kids got a lot out of it by staying in school getting a good education as well as having fun with music and technology it was by far the best program we've ever had here
