from the factory radio into the subwoofer amp so if you're just doing a sub you can use what's called a line output converter that's what this is right here it basically takes your high levels from your speaker wires you connect those little wires to your factory speaker wires and it converts it to an RCA output that you can plug into the amplifier if you're doing a full range system with a 4-channel amp or anything like that you're going to want to use a signal processor a proper processor to make it sound as good as it can with a subwoofer it's not as critical you won't notice any of the high frequency loss or anything like that because you're only using low frequency so line up converter works just fine so I'm going to go ahead and show you how to take out the factory radio and where to connect alright so now we need to remove the factory radio this is actually really easy on this vehicle it looks a little intimidating but it's actually pretty easy what you're going to want to do is first you're going to want to remove this trim right here the silver trim this has already been removed once and I didn't really clip everything back in real good so it's going to come off really easy for me but you're going to have to work at it a little bit with a panel tool be careful you don't Mar this up on the edges or ruin the dash or anything but basically just start at a corner somewhere and get your panel tool under it and start lifting it up and this whole thing will just snap just like that unplug the connections and now the factory climate controls and screen are held in with 4 bolts there's one 9/32 bolt here 9/32 9/32 and in 9/32 they're all 9/32 take those out there's two clips in the middle that hold it in so you're just going to want to give it a good tug just like that unplug all the factory connections from the rear and set that aside as well this unit right here is the one we're looking for this is actually the guts of the radio that is just a screen for the radio this is what actually has the amplifier and all the inputs and everything into this is your OnStar unit we don't care about that and your CD player we don't care about that either so this plug is the plug we're looking for I'm going to hook the lineout converter to the front channels on this one because the front channels in this truck actually seemed to be what reproduced the low frequency the front doors so I'm going to use the front channels a lot of vehicles I'd use the rear but on this particular one I'm going to use the front and the front channels so you can see this front channels are the left four pins so on the very left on the top you have a blue that's your positive left you have a brown with a blue stripe that's your negative left channel and then you have yellow which is your right channel positive and yellow with a black stripe that's your right channel negative so next we're going to hook up the lineout converter to those four wires and get ready to run the RCA s alright got my line out converter all wired up and I just kind of stuck it down here underneath the OnStar unit on top of the CD player there's plenty of room back here so you can stick it right here up in here wherever you can fit it that's just a nice secure location I put some double-sided sticky tape on it just to hold it there i soldered all my connections always a good idea to solder and you can do whatever you want but I always try to consider everything I do permanent so I soldered everything in there I ran my wires through the glovebox my RCA s if you'd like to do that as well it's real easy to get the glovebox out I already have this one I'm bolted but just open up the top one open it up there's a couple t15 Torx right there and right there and if you look underneath I don't know if you'll be able to see this but there's also a t15 here and right there and once you get those out you can just pull on the glovebox and the whole thing comes right out and you can run your wires up through I ran it up across the top here you can't see them and then down along the kick panel you can pop open this Raceway right here and run your RCA's in there it's a great spot to run them and glad this truck has these actually did the same thing on the other side went right through the raceway tuck it under the carpet and again I ran mine to the back wall because that's where I put my amplifier ran right through the Raceway along the back wall you can put it anywhere you want you can put it under the seat whatever you want I did the same thing with the power wire up the driver side always try to separate your RCA and your power wire there shouldn't be run down the same side so I'm going to have an under seat box so I just have my speaker wire just kind of sitting here for now until the box comes in that'll be tomorrow this is a pretty good spot to mount your amp I just use really short non corrosive corrosive non rusting screws like stainless mounted to the back wall just use real short ones it won't go through very far you can look inside put it under the seat make sure you ground it really well don't just use like a self-tapping screw some people say not to use the seat bolts if you're using a pretty small or moderate power to amp you know 500 watt 600 watt 700 watt even probably 800 watt you can use these just clear off all the paint around them you know the connections being made between the terminal in the metal itself not the bowl so it really doesn't matter how its held down so these work fine just clear off all the paint and you should be good to go so next thing is going to be the battery okay so I think what my plan here is going to be is to run from the fuse holder right along this factory wire and I'm going to make a notch in the fuse box like a Halfmoon right here sort of like what they did on this side and I'm going to run the wire right in through here now a tip when you're doing anything like this when you run across a distribution block like this don't go to any of these if you look they're actually fused see this is 175 a amp that ones 125 amp now those would probably be fine because they're really high amperage but you always want to go as close to the battery terminal and without any fuses as you possibly can so I'm going to run it all the way along this bus bar here and I'm going to go right to this terminal right here that's the terminal it runs right to the battery so no fuses no anything in the way after you run your wire through there and you make you little notch there you're going to have to remove this little piece of plastic here inside where the wire runs through it doesn't give you enough room to run through so I have to do is cut this out you can use pair of snips or using
