Do my capstone project level 3 excel write for me capstone paper tips dorothy day essay hi I'm Dominic thanks for watching Dominic's Woodworks and today I am making Christmas tree well yes before I state the obvious it's not actually a Christmas tree but with a little resaw it could be made from a Christmas tree or the remnants though anyway that's a pretty easy project to make you can make it from scrap wood and a nice scrap wood it makes for a good present so let me show you how to make it and afterwards I also got kind of a present for you which is a little template but well we get to that after this one or this one as far as materials go on top of a bunch of scraps let's you also need a piece of town long enough for the tree and a bit more a drill bit the size of the dowel is recommended to the extent that it's mandatory you also need a piece of scrap for the top ornament as well as a chunk for the base the concept is to stack a bunch of pieces to make a Christmas tree shape which is basically a triangle depending on the size of decoration you want you need to cut off pieces of varying number in length it is important to make more than one piece of each length and you will see why that is in a second or maybe a few seconds more I would recommend making groups of four you can now place them like this in order to see how the final tree will turn out size wise you could simply drill holes through the Centers of the pieces and call it a day or a tree but there is a secret to making the tree look oh so much more lifelike with oh so little extra effort and while you have already seen this secret in action let's revel in the hidden knowledge about to be revealed for a moment longer let you do the secret is to drill the hole off-center and to be really anticlimactic about it having placed all the pieces in a boring triangular fashion take a straight edge and draw a line from the center of the smallest to point off to one side on the longest piece the thing is that going too far out literally speaking will not give you a far out tree but just look out I would recommend going for the two-third mark or maybe three quarters at most in addition to what you see here you will also need a few short pieces for the truck drilling the holes is really easy if you set up a small jig which consists of a scrap piece and a clamp draw a pencil line along the slit then align the mark you made before with the bit place the clamp so that it acts as a stop you can rest the piece against and make sure that your trill hits the center of the sled when you tighten down the clamp once satisfied with the hold position transfer the mark from the sled to the jig and you're basically done they accept four trillion countless holes but hey you can have your kids do it seriously it's that simple this handy five-year-old enjoyed it so much that she insisted that I make another tree so she could keep on using the drill press incidentally we also did an adventures in the workshop video about the true press which you should check out but now the fun part is over now we need to get back in shape well at least the waters I'm sure they are better and more fun ways to do this I opted for the belt sander and a roundish look for the pieces which resulted in hours and hours of sanding and a bit of fingernail loss not something I would recommend for kids at all an easier method would be to simply chamfer the pieces with a router or more easily on a router table even simpler would be to use a block plane for the chamfers you could also round over the pieces either with a router bit small enough or with several passes of a plane at varying angles but as you can see edited the hard way for your viewing pleasure then again I also took the easy way by not sending the pieces any further but do believe that the rough texture adds to the rustic if not rocked look of the piece I mean come on have you ever seen a Christmas tree with a bark polished smooth all that is left to do is to thread all the pieces on the length of towel and unleash the aforementioned secret by flipping every other piece 180 degrees there are many methods for making towels and buying them is certainly one of them you can also use a chisel a metal plate a belt sander or even a table saw I'll put some links in the description for that you could also use the lathe but I think that would be overkill but ours I use were left over from another project I can no longer recall if you happen to have smaller pieces there's a way to connect them cut of one end of each piece at a steep angle it would recommend also sending the cut faces for better connection if you hold both pieces next to each other you can pretty much make sure that both angles will be the same now you can start putting pieces on the first hour then once one or two pieces extend over the bottom of the angle put the next piece of towel in along with some optional flu I also need a base in the front mine in my burn box slash lumber storage a piece of beam will do nicely and add to the either a stick or reclaimed nature of your finished piece drill a hole into it for the dowel and you're good to go same with the top ornament if you choose to make one take a piece of poor thick enough for the dowel through the hole into it and cut out whatever it is you want I picked badly sketching stars from them I did not clue mine down in any way and the reason is being able to do this you one thing I want to show you is the difference between these two when it comes to the tip I don't know whether you can see but this one yep this one I drew the line along the of the center of the pieces but for the top pieces I kinda hit Center and there's not much of alternation to be seen here for this one I well I kind of marked center but then truth off-center and weight free up one hand the offset here is larger than its up here which I think makes for a nice effect but they're still offset up to the to the topmost part I kind of like this one better but the other one yeah it it works too so I did promise you kind of a present and well it's this at least in part this is a template I made to be used for a small piece of plywood or scrap part or whatever in what you get if you had to skewer is this it's basically the same same method to use the screw in here and this is a piece of scrap right from the burn box and it makes a little Christmas tree you can of course which I didn't do with this one you can send it like the big one you can take kind of spray paint and go over it I made mine on the scroll saw you could also use the band saw or the fret saw which basically is a scroll saw without the motor and you might be able to do it with a jig so if you're feeling kind of devilish I wouldn't recommend that though your head over to Dominic's Woodworks to come to download the template for this and I'd love to see pictures if you make one or have your kids make one shooter pick send it to me I'd love to see it and love to share it if that's okay which is incidentally also my entry to the Christmas ornament challenge 2016 hosted by Cartier Gibson and Ann Stratton it's as usual when I post my entries it's almost over nevertheless head over there and check out all the cool entries thank you for watching let me know what you think in the comments below please subscribe to my channel so you don't miss anything and as always remember to be inspired so thank you for watching how if you enjoyed this Christmas ornament which incidentally is awesome an entry to the Christmas ornament challenge to Todd and it went so well if you hold the butter you can pretty much make sure that both if you hold both peaches you can pretty much make sure that both if you hold both I need to make outtakes for this capstone concept for joint operations version 1 0 for money Tisch School of Arts.
