Do my capstone at vallagio colorado arduino on board led for money hemangiomas and vascular malformations classification essay my name is Belinda and this is our fourth annual or not for anybody for that is a familia and what we do is we bring parents onto campus parents students and their families so that we can in for them on what it's like to be a student at Palomar College and to transfer we do this so because a lot of us are first-generation students so our families don't know what it's like to be here or you know what how to come here they don't know they're never been really acquainted with the campus on like a university or like a community college so we do that so that they can get to know what it's like to take classes and also so that they can ask questions because and I know that a lot of them have questions that maybe some of us can't answer so we bring that we bring speakers today we brought we focused on the transfer theme so all three of our speakers where transfer students are going to be transfer students and yeah just to network with each other and bring also new students um I went into it very naively um I was just like I love this I don't care if I can find a job this is my passion you know I'm gonna change the world not to say that's naive but um I I wasn't thinking that far ahead like I just knew that when I took those classes I felt moved and when I took other classes I didn't feel like that and so for me that was just enough ah I mean it's so difficult to say what the recession and the economy the way it is on I think it's always going to be competitive to find work but if you really love what you do I think that you ensues that energy you put that out into the world and people see that and I think that you will go far regardless of whatever field it's in so long as you have that passion because not everybody has that for their line of work and I think that makes you stand out I think that makes people want you to be on their team I made you choose I see on so I did ethnic studies and I loved it and then as soon as i was done i didn't know what i wanted to do um and i want to put that out there because i think a lot of people feel like they have to have it all figured out and you don't um I was at Palomar for six years before I transferred so I took my time getting there I have some students who come into my office in their life oh my god have already been here for years what do I do and I'm like you to have plenty of time you know it's a process just like anything else you don't have to have it all figured out on right away and step for me I didn't have it figured out I worked for my husband was funnier sona State University so I went out there and Arizona's a lot of you guys know working in social justice it's the most um little hostile so wanting to work a non-profit it was really difficult to find something out there I looked for a job for like six months I can find anything so finally I fell into working for a for-profit university and I didn't like it I really missed working with the public like on a community level I like I like working with diverse student populations that I wasn't really gaining that experience working for that particular University so we moved we moved actually to Central America for a little while of our honeymoon we went down there and we decided not to come back from our honeymoon so we lived down there girl a year and a half and then I came back and I started working at MiraCosta college and I was working administrative and I just really missed being around people and interacting with people and hearing their stories that I know it's a really scary process but ah the only way you're going to grow it is to get uncomfortable and there's this old expression if if you want to be comfortable take a warm shower if you want to be successful get uncomfortable um so if you're kind of in transition in early I don't know if I'm ready to take that next step I challenge you to take that next step because it could be the stuff that really makes who you are as a person and it could potentially change your life I've been at Palmer for three semesters and I was asked to come here to speak about my process how it's been this far and some advice that I could give you guys as to you know how to make it easier on yourself when I was in high school you know I was a really great student I wasn't excellent but I was great I had a 4.8 my senior year a 4.5 my junior I was worth any player I was MVP I was Captain about side I was part of the National Honor Society the California scholarship under Union best buddies I was the vice president of a nonprofit community service organization so you expected me to go to a four-year university I had a lot of people looking up to me including my parents as you guys know as Latinos our parents expect a lot of out of us we've been to school they expect us to go to university and acceptance letters came in March I got accepted to most of the UC schools but I didn't get accepted to my dream school which is UCSD or UCLA I currently been accepted to UCSD waiting for UCLA UC Berkeley but I was pretty disappointed and I decided to just run I didn't want to stay at home as my name is probably didn't want to stay we're very secluded in our Latino communities and I did I wanted to become more independent so I decided to run and I decided to go and accept my acceptance letters to Cal State a life and I thought that after two years I confidently I would transfer to UCLA I thought it was gonna be so easy I had no direction of course cuz as Latinos I feel we don't ask when we need help we don't we don't have direction for my parents we don't have you can't even ask our best friends because most of the time our best friends are Latinos as well whose parents have not gone to college I could ask that person is my father did not even hydrate the third grade my mother dropped out of high school because she couldn't afford to pay for it anymore so I think that it's really important that we begin this network with each other you know to help each other out so that we can not take that direction but I ended up going to cast it away for a quarter the day before Cal family school actually started I drew i went on a bus never been on the bus support went across town to UCLA spoke to a counselor who literally told me to and I quote she literally said it is pretty much impossible for you to transfer from a cal state to a UC school and you have better chances of going to Community College then and transferring that you stay at cal state only we only accept about one person from each Cal State and that's only if you have amazing stats I was devastated I did not know what to do school started the next day and palomar enrollment had already been two months ago I was like what the heck am I gonna Jack went back to school at health day I was storming there I decided that I would stay there for the quarter you know you have to make decisions for yourself I always tell myself don't give up on your goals my goal has always been from when I was probably middle school to go to a top you see school that has always been my goal I will not give up on my goals because of other people's expectations for me my parents wanted me to be at a four-year university but Cal State LA wasn't my university that's somewhere I wanted to be so I decided I wanted to go to UCLA so I decided to stay the quarter they're finished the quarter to not miss school transfer back through the disappointment of my parents my teachers everybody that I knew my friends everybody thought I was a failure everybody thought that I had I didn't make it on my own but I didn't care i decided to use that negative energy through myself and to put it here at palomar do my ieee paper on internet of things 2016 State University of New York at Cobleskill.
