Coso enterprise risk management 2019 pdf capstone bd com agenda project steering committee report thank you for joining us today on what's up Prince William today we have Carol Murdoch 27 years old has been through 15 surgeries in three years she is a former paramedic and a professional dog groomer thank you for every much for being with us today thank you and uh what just tell us a little bit about your story about four years I developed a blood clot in my artery in my right arm which led to an amputation below the elbow I've had so many surgeries I've had skin grafts I've had flat grass and everything to really rebuild my arm from the gangrene that took place and Oh being an amputee how does that changed your life um I've had to restart from scratch I can no longer perform my job duties is a career that I loved I loved working with animals I was very good at it it's changed my life so much because driving my license is on medical suspension I've lost a lot of friends because they don't quite know how to interact with me it's changed my home life you know simple things I I need help doing is just everything has changed everything and because of the surgeries at one time you were actually addicted to opioids but it so you'll tell us about that like you what led to that but also how you got off of opioids you know with the challenges with that um due to my surgeries I obviously had to be on the management unfortunately my body became dependent on this and there is a difference between physical addiction and mental addiction um not everybody who becomes addicted to opioids is an addict that's a common misconception um I take suboxone which has helped me steer away from the opioids unfortunately that medication is very expensive it's also the opioids it has degraded my teeth it reaches I related to calcium or the vitamin D out of your body to the point where your teeth actually break down very very quickly whether you brush whether we floss or anything it was unexpected I was never told by my doctor that this could potentially happen so now I'm in the position of where I'm trying to raise funds to get my teaching here because unfortunately I'm at risk for a heart valve infection it can we college my to sipping and it's a very urgent need for me to get these teeth pulled um but you know be addicted to narcotics it you get you get treated differently because oh you're an addict girl you're addicted you're a bad person and this is not that case and some of the challenges have been really you know being being judged by medical professionals um you know not getting to explain your story you know they just they look at your prescriptions and they say oh she's a dictator oh she's playing the system and it's not always like that you know and so with with the having the amputation having to go to the the different surgeries the medicines how obviously this affected you being able to work yes I used to work full-time I have a part-time other job and I I used to be able to go non-stop you know just doing everything it's very excited for work and everything after the amputation after all the surgeries I tried to go back to work unfortunately just being a simple duties being a receptionist I could not keep up you know I desperately tried you know and the other problem is amputees they face a lot of pain it's a lot of pain and fall with the amputation even once the wounds are healed and that certainly affected my ability to work if I could get a prosthetic and finish the surgeries on my arm I would have no problem going back to work I'd actually love to go back to work and get part of my life back and so one of the things so you don't have insurance and medicines are very expensive yes and I've been trying to get on to Medicaid what are some of the challenges actually trying to get on Medicaid Medicaid application it's it's very challenging because a lot of the questions on there you know I'm 27 years old and some of the questions on there I did not understand if I hadn't had help with the application I wouldn't have known how to answer those questions you know some of them are you know really very simple you know list your bank account balance or stuff like that or you know the reason why you need Medicaid you know and I can understand those questions but some of it is it's the application definitely needs to be redone it needs to be more friendly to people is there anything that just through your experience you know other than say maybe simplifying the application is there anything you think that could help people in your situation you know maybe if people actually help you fill out the application or anything like that if it was definitely you know if you could make an appointment with somebody and say hey I really need help filling out this application you know it not being so hard to get an appointment or not having to wait so long I was at the Social Security Administration we lead for almost two hours you know and part of that was standing out beside the door because there was not enough room you know that the system is swamped you know we were standing in 90-degree heat you know and when you have elderly people or people with disabilities and things like that you know that takes a real toll on them I know I don't handle the heat well at all I have circulation problems and standing out in the heat and getting dehydrated makes everything worse so it the system needs to be rethought it and we touched on a little bit but what is your biggest challenge right now to your health probably two things one is my circulation and my chance for developing another blood clot I've already lost my right arm below the elbow my left arm and hand is at risk if I were to throw a clot I would potentially lose it and that that is unthinkable to go through life without pants it really is the other problem is I need to get my teeth pulled I need to get dentures it desperately because if I have another heart valve infection it's already damaged my valve the first time but if I get another one I'm always scared those antibiotics they're not going to work before the time so right now because because of the issues that you're having with your teeth that opens you up to risk of infection which can affect you actually losing your left arm yes and obviously right now you don't have any insurance or anything is to cover doing that and every Jeff so you actually have a there is a go fund GoFundMe page yes I do a GoFundMe page we're trying to raise essentially twenty four thousand dollars which is what it's gonna cost to get you know my teeth fixed all the oral surgery that I need it needs to be done in the hospital one because of the problems that I have you know I need to be monitored more closely I need to be in a different environment than for say an office procedure which is you know without insurance that's paying for the the worked at the oral surgeon does that's paying for the dentures that's paying for the anesthesiologist the hospital visit the medications everything that's going to amount to a lot of money with someone who doesn't have insurance or you know doesn't have medicaid I've applied but you know everything's a waiting game but that that we you know something potentially could happen and I I don't don't want to be back in the hospital good research paper topics yahoo answers order Jamestown Community College.
