Capstone project university of washington cheap do my ebs capstone group ford essay [Music] hi I'm John burn with poets and quants welcome to the Olin School of Business in st. Louis at Washington University we're here to take a deep dive in the number one rated undergraduate business program in the United States we rated number one for three very good reasons the admission standards here are exceptionally high the academic experience over four years is superlative and so are the career outcomes we're going to spend the little time with the new dean mark taylor where i think you're going to enjoy very much then we're gonna ask undergraduate students but the real experience is like at the Olin School come join me for the tour my favorite way of learning while at the business school and at Washu has been experience oh we're actually doing real consulting for real business and pitching these these ideas to the actual business the faculty just want to see me succeed they're so vested in my success that I feel like there's just no way I can fail at this point teachers have been in the industry they understand what's important and they make sure that the curriculum reflects modern business practices we're attracting the best and brightest in the country and we also really do push them from day one we believe in giving them the skills giving them the concepts and making them apply it as early as their freshman fall really interesting I want to continue to explore them so I'm here with three undergraduate students at the Olin School of Business we have two seniors in one junior let me ask you to describe what it's like to be an undergraduate business student I think being an underwriter in is the student is a lot of work at the same time they definitely it's don't go easy on you but it's because they want to see you get better and they want to see you learn what drew me to Wash U was the flexibility within the curriculum so 40% of our degree has to come from outside of the business school throughout my time here I've taken classes across all four undergraduate schools being engineering architecture business and the Arts and Sciences so how did you get turned on through the business program into finance day one you come in and you start learning about businesses and analyzing them from all different components so it's it's finance its marketing its accounting its operations and I really enjoyed the finance and stuck with it and became a finance major and then went on to actually end up getting an internship and wealth management I had an internship through an Olin study abroad program in London and international securities lending and then pivoted a little bit and ended up in an investment banking and you created your own company as I mentioned before talk about that process and how the school might have been helpful to you and in making that happen I wanted to take advantage of the student entrepreneurial program on on campus here the faculty was extremely helpful in helping us get the start in terms of working through our business plan and developing our idea when we needed funding we went to the student entrepreneurial program and they had forgivable loans essentially available for students who just wanted to take the rest of it yes absolutely so mark has a newcomer you're coming in from Britain where you had been Dean at the Warwick Business School for half a dozen years what's your best advice to an applicant who wants to come and take advantage of the Olin School we're looking for people who have a strong value system that really think about integrity think about ethics but also want to have a global outlook yes we are based right here in the Midwest in the United States is that there's a strong work ethic it is based on in integrity and then a straightforwardness which i think is it's very valuable in business life but amongst that that Midwestern culture there is also a very very global outlook and our thinking is entrepreneurial was very happy to see all the entrepreneurial opportunities that could take advantage of better for experiential learning the venture consulting and different abroad courses you went to Budapest tell us about that it was a one-week short-term immersion course that happened in Budapest and we each got assigned to a client and my client was to get which is the coachella of Budapest ultimately what did you learn from the experience to ask questions in a very respectful manner and also being able to give suggestions to a client in a non-threatening way in fact you had an interesting experience as well where an intervention with a professor led to essentially a new miner at the business school yeah so my freshman year I came in very interested in business a little more specifically the music industry and how business could be incorporated into that so I talked to my four years a four year advisor and she suggested I reach out to one of the microeconomics professors that has a background in the music industry and him mentoring me through the process of creating a minor and you ended up doing your internship at Atlantic Records in New York this past summer yeah it was an incredible opportunity to be able to combine my passion for music with what I learned in business classes at Olin man came into my marketing class to talk about Facebook and the digital revolution and all of that and I found it super interesting so I went up to him after asked if we can grab a cup of coffee had a lovely conversation he was a Wash U alum and June I went out to Austin to start my internship with Facebook they fed me three meals a day wonderful housing it was so much fun to be working there why she left with a job offer I did I did leave with a job offers so even going into my senior year before I've graduated I have two job offers two final round interviews already lined up and Erin you interned in New York at Barclays yes I did I was in the mess and baking division and specifically my group is called equity-linked where we dealt with the hybrid between debt and equity you left with a job offer as well yes I did in fact you're going to take it and go to New York and worker Barclays right I am last words what's your advice to someone who wants to come to Olin and take advantage of the undergraduate program you definitely don't have to have it all figured out but you know really come prepared to learn a lot to really be engaged so be prepared to jump right into that everyone is on top of their stuff and they are bringing something unique to the table so learn from them Steve how does the person know that Olin is just the right fit for them the sense of community the sense of culture we have at Olin is is incredibly strong and I think many students really are drawn to that in addition to the access to incredible faculty from day one the opportunity to go abroad as early as your first year to do all these types of experience or activities very very early in your academic career and that's that's pretty special people are just very willing to help you here and that it it shocked me how willing they are to help you the thing is they're not just doing it to do it they're doing it because they genuinely care I think we have a good relationship this region is really actually does very much care and is very engaged with the students at that mentorship piece paired with the network within Wash U has been absolutely invaluable you you write for me wgu capstone business plan example
