from Finland who's just been committed to Arizona since Ari thank you for joining us also with Ben our he replacement awesome man so it's entire Eman thank you so much for your time today I know you're really busy with your golf but buddy first tell us about yourself who you are where you are right now and it's you bro yeah yeah as I said my name is son Terrell a smile I'm from Finland 18 years old just committed to Arizona very happy about it actually right now I'm in Dubai enjoying someone with lovely weather and good golf I'm here with mom but training and getting ready for the season awesome man awesome why did you want to come to America well I think it was obvious that it's the only way to combine academics and like do sports highly competitive sports I love the idea of being a part of the team the level is very high both in academics and the sport so yeah it is a complete package very good so like if you weren't gonna do the u.s. option what would you done would you turn professional what have you done University in Finland like what do you mean your second option I don't know I never thought about it maybe turning pro but yeah I've always had like some pressure for my mom that you need to do your academics and stuff so it was obvious to come time it's like in bonus you sit up the supporter spot yeah I hear you my mum was the same way you're going to school you're not talking Pro straightaway I think it's gonna be awesome for you is that you know you're gonna have that experience of four years to grow to mature you know you can you can play against the best athletes around the world in the u.s. college system and also you know if you make your mistakes it's not going to cost you millions of dollars right now applying us it's gonna help your bank account where in college is not going to help your bank account so I think that's something to look forward to for sure obviously you had a lot of offers you'll get lots of interest what was your offers like what kind of office did you have you know was it just Arizona what was the schools that were kind of coming - you know there was a plenty of offers and I spoke to I actually spoke to 22 23 different schools at the end very very humbled and honored about it in the last leaders there was UCLA and Colorado State were like a UNLV those those three schools maybe were the last last four options with Arizona yeah I got to know a lot of coaches and a lot of programs that they were awesome but Arizona was just the best for me with those colleges in mind what was the main deciding factor in choosing Arizona the main factor was probably the facilities and in the weather they were just all so for me coming from feel that I've used to swing with swim in the snow during the wintertime so I get to play all year around and I like I really like the coaches as well so there was a lot of manufactures in Arizona but yeah maybe those three weather bigots much so choosing that made at the right school for you your advice to give to fellow athletes that are looking for the right school are the biggest advice that I can give is just to find the right school for you with all the factors academics whether sports program it doesn't matter how high or level it is it just needs to suit you the best because you're there for years practicing and getting ready to maybe turn professional or whatever so it needs to just sort you the best keep that in mind I think that's really really valuable advice because you know obviously coming from England like myself the weather's not as good like Finland as well right so we have something in common there and obviously my goal was to go to Stanford so you know even though it didn't happen initially I took something that homie wasn't the great occasion in terms of going to I were initially right but it was a reason was it because I wanted to use that as a stepping stone going to a junior college there that ranked number one in the country was it the best place to go for me to get the opportunity to still get recruited to Stanford so I think what you say they're choosing the school that's right for you is key because I see so many athletes choosing schools they're thinking is just going to be good because I hear it's good right it's not actually the best fit but and you like yourself as being both Europeans you've probably heard the stories of athletes coming to the u.s. playing here and then going back and saying I wasn't very good I think the reason why that happens is because you go to the school that isn't a good fit so I think what you've based your decision making on is right you know you made sure that's the right fit for you when choosing of school so I think that's really good it's easy for these American guys they know more about the college system so we only get here's couple things and that's why we're doing this recent re so that way we can share this this amazing experience you've had for other athletes to learn about it so what are you what are you looking most forward to right because you're coming here next year I think August so what are you looking most excited about well all of it but maybe maybe the competition is your main main thing for being part of a team because I'm not used to that playing off it's single sport that I can be part of a team a part of the school because everyone's their Wildcats yeah yeah but I mean I love to enjoy enjoy some Sun just to be part of America I guess cool man yeah you know so what advice being a 2018 recruit committing early what was what advice would you give to athletes that are just looking to come to America for school all right yeah so I think the biggest factor is that the coaches and schools are not going to be ringing out your bells so you need to go out there and make yourself known so you can never be too early I was two years early it was just on the line the biggest sports are gonna be hanging off the scholarships like two three years earlier yeah I think just take the tests as soon as possible and be ready for it dream about it is that is talked because like what you say there is I want every athlete hearing that because like that's what I didn't realize right like you started much only and I start the process and I wish like going back now ten years ago I started when you started even earlier to be honest right because you know us the big schools they start they give out those deals so like so early now it's not like low in Europe but we don't really apply as universities one and so like the last minute I don't know how you do in Finland but England we don't start you know apply for universities and so we basically graduate like our GCC's or a-levels right so yeah I think so yeah and I think like in the u.s. well even some us American athletes not start the process early enough exactly senior senior young got d1 scholarship your point okay and do you want it's gonna be your junior year at minimum minimum sophomore junior year are the two big issues for student-athletes hey so bro thank you so much your time man and you get back to practicing and lovely to bye so usually sure Bo and like yeah so thanks your time mate and look we look forward to watching you plan to stay senior results and winning events and one day seeing you on talk it's going to be great thanks man [Music]
