Capstone figurative meaning for money access 2019 chapter 5 capstone for money do essay on ability cheap let's take a look inside hackerspaces I'm Cali Lewis welcome to get beat Jamie this episode of geek beat TV is brought to you by gamefly goto gamefly.com slash keep it for your free trial membership many of you are familiar with the term hacker space but not everyone is the word hacker of course has two common meanings one is negative someone who hacks your computer for example to do bad bad stuff the other is a very positive term the kind of hacker we're talking about today is someone who tinkers with gadgets or science to make it better a hacker space is a building or other kind of space where hackers get together to work on their own projects but in an environment of similar minded people geeks tinkerers usually everyone in the space has different interests or specialties like up close robots it's a hollow nama crow bot which means it can go any degree in any direction so it doesn't need to actually turn to steer and it uses Omni wheels based at 45 degrees and it can track its position then it's got a bunch other miscellaneous sensors on it too I don't tell interpret with its environment so these Omni wheels have rollers on the sides of them so they can traverse so they're basically fixed wheel casters that you can actually drive so they'll drive parallel to the motor or perpendicular to the mobile motor shaft but when it gets pushed to the side diesel roll so it doesn't have the resistance that a normal wheel does in the other direction so because of that you can combine motion of the two wheels and create vectors that point in any direction from its base without reconfiguring this and this thing's got off oral sonic sensors on it for positioning relative to the wheels it's got four quadrature encoders an array line following infrared array on the bottom and kind of do anything what you want with it or experimenting with lasers having creative minds in one room often leads to people pushing each other further encouraging each other and ideas often sprout from such an environment like making a robot for the sole purpose of making you a sandwich because you're too busy working on your computer or another project and get up and do it yourself first you type in sudo make me a sammich sudo make me so much our bread delivery mechanism pushes out a piece of bread onto the tray then it's time for the cheese delivery mechanism then the bread delivery mechanism is another piece of bread on to the piece of cheese which is on the piece of bread the tray into the oven and the flap goes down and it's cooking it's toasted there really is a special class of things in the world and called toasted things and they're the footage you've seen was at a hackerspace group right here in Dallas called Dallas makerspace when you visit you get a warm fuzzy feeling because everyone's welcome everyone's a family and everyone's helping each other plus I finally got to see a MakerBot in action in person I've talked a lot about the MakerBot and we have one here right behind us going at it it's making a it's making a coin activated bottle opener yeah a lot of fun we serve the scientific community can you kind of explain exactly how it's working and why it's so cool it's a 3d printing for the masses rapid prototyping for the masses normally you know scientific communities the research centers and things would spend ten thousand two hundred thousand or more on similar technology and this is basically a thousand dollar piece of equipment that anybody can know and if they have the skills to build one and it's obtainable so the average person sort of like the altar was nineteen seventy six or so before then nobody had computers right well nobody had a 3d printer just more than a few years ago and now anybody can have one you know and in the future you'll see these at walmart for a couple hundred bucks on edging and and it's it's I think it's going to change the world obviously there's engineering things that need to be overcome we are trying to overcome those and someday you might even be able to you know print something similar to an iphone on one of these things you know that it's it's like Star Trek you know replicator one point o ride it's it's it's coming everybody's really excited about it and it will change the economy some people hanging out in hacker spaces are gamers maybe they like hacking the Kinect like so many people do gamers have locked to the online rental service gamefly.com where you can rent all sorts of games over 7,000 games to be exact starting at 1595 a month much less expensive than buying games only to find out it bores you so easily no late fees no due dates and if you do like one you want to keep tell them and they'll send you the manuals free of charge try it out see for yourself get a 15 day free trial and want to know I sent you a gamefly.com slash Kiki I also got to meet a guy who is all about bringing back the old tech I'd like to take you back in time Steven here is has actually shot with all of these cameras and they're from different eras can you kind of walk us through why you wanted to go back to the old way of doing things and I'm a computer programmer professionally and I spend 40 plus hours a week in front of the computer and got into photography and digital photography and got to the point where very quickly got to the point where I decided I didn't want spend more time in from the computer and so between post-production and production working in photoshop and and my father-in-law had a bunch of old Nikon film cameras from the 70s and he said here you know try these cameras out I shot with those for a little bit and really enjoyed working with black and white film and going back and learning traditional photographic methods and from there I thought well do can I get other old cameras to work and so I started tracking them down on ebay craigslist garage sales you know anywhere i can find an old camera got it home cleaned it up but bill minute and sure enough a hundred year old cameras still work a digital photography as simple as it is to push the button and make a picture happen on the back of the this screen requires a lot of technology to get it there photoshop is an expensive program you gotta have a nice computer to do post-production to make to make a nice print from a digital image you've got to have a really nice printer and you've got to know what you're doing or you go and let someone else do it for you well if you want to have full control over it going back and using black and white film and an old camera that has manual settings you've got more control over and moreover once you learn one how to do that with one camera in one process learning to do it for any camera is just figuring out the little things that are different but since this process is the same a lot of the knowledge moves forward with it and you'll learn more about photography in general I learned a lot more about photography learning old vintage stuff than I probably ever would have learned to do it in learning to do it in Photoshop or on the computer or on a digital camera that's there are too many shortcuts and you miss out on a lot of the basic knowledge if you're in dallas you can join the Dallas makerspace at Dallas makerspace calm or if you're not into making things yourself you can donate to support those who do if you're not in Dallas but you'll want to connect with people like you be sure to seek out your own communities maker space or hackerspace thanks so much for watching guys I hope you have a great weekend I'm Cali Lewis fight let's take a look inside hackerspaces I'm Cali Lewis welcome to
