Capstone 2 schedule 2018 write for me capstone healthcares site log in 10 topics to avoid in college essay let's cockadoodle in it's me Bart and welcome to another episode of my personal blogs and for today's episode I want to talk about how I went from ashy to classy now I don't mean that financially I mean that academically because I've been getting a lot of questions like if you were so Gangstalicious in high school how'd you go to UCLA and I think that's a great question and I would like to share that with job especially since I know there are a lot of people out there or coming from similar circumstances of where I came from and also just knowing about what I did right or what I did wrong in life I just hope that when I share that with the world that it can inspire people to do even the same or do exactly the opposite as long as you better yourself in life so long story short in high school I used to roll with the delicious people with the Gangstalicious people and I also used to go raving a lot and we all know what we do when we go raving so needless to say I didn't go to high school very much because I was involved in a bunch of nocturnal last activities I probably went to high school or maybe one day out of the week if that so my grades really really suffered and I actually have a copy of my high school transcript right here so check it out and one of the semesters at school I got a one point three and in another semester I didn't even make the 1.0 mark I got a point eight zero but if you check it out I actually took calculus in high school so that shows that I wasn't dumb because it's not easy I'll just to proof just to prove that it's mine here it is Bart kwon so it shows that I wasn't dumb that's just that I didn't put a lot of effort into my studies so I got really really bad grades and after high school I'm gonna send the Marine Corps when I came out of the active duty training portion I enrolled myself at least Los Angeles College he lacked which is down the street and I carried a lot of my high school habits with me so my first couple of semesters at elac I did really poorly because I would ditch class all the time I wouldn't pay attention in class I was more interested in talking to girls or just chilling with the homies you know and after a few semesters I started getting the hang of school again and I was like you know what like I need to go to school for me I need a benefit myself cuz for the first couple of semesters I would just do the homework the day before or like 30 minutes before need to turn it in study for a test the day before a test but that's studying to get the grade I need to study to get the material in me so I could take it with me later on in life because grades are only paper deep you know I mean so once I got that concept in my head how I started studying was I would read a chapter before the teacher would teach it so while the teacher was teaching and I was already like on the same plane with the teacher and any questions that I had from reading the other chapter I could just bring it up in class and it's like as if the teacher was teaching I can just learn at his pace rather than trying to play catch-up all the time so later on after that I started bettering myself I started like reading a lot more learning for myself I was prepared for an exam two days before the exam date and my grades started getting better and better and better so by the time I transferred the last year before I transferred to UCLA I got a 4.0 however my overall community college GPA was 3.3 or like a 3.4 so that shows that even with a whole year with her 4.0 the average only came back to 3.3 or 3.4 so that shows how shitty my first like year year-and-a-half eMac was now you might be asking damn what the 3.3.4 how the hell did you get UCLA I heard that if you don't even have a 3.6 did not even kind of consider you well here's the thing the second thing you need to know is you got to know your strengths so for me I knew since I didn't have a perfect clean academic record I knew that I needed to do other things to make myself more competitive if I wanted to get into that school so one thing that I had going for me was that I was in the Marine Corps so with that that shows leadership and of course I included that in my personal statement when I apply the other things that I started doing was I started volunteering on hospitals and health fairs to show that I give back to the community so I had like about a hundred volunteer hours before I transferred and also I got myself involved in student organizations that interested me and I held leadership positions so that shows more leadership and I started applying for a bunch of scholarships writing essay writing contest so I just like the whole stack of credentials so by the time I applied even though my number of figure was only like three point three at three point four I had like the whole stack of stuff that most transfer students wouldn't have and I'm for certain that that really helped me get into UCLA to be able to compete with the 3.6 3.7 three-point-eight force and also one thing that really benefitted me is I joined the Honors Program and I turned the Honors Program what that shows the other college is that you know it's like this student is trying to strive for the best because when you take an honors course like let's say for example you want to take like US history US history you just take that's like the basic course right taking the US history honors version you're gonna be thinking more critically you don't have to write more papers so the college's know that you're gonna put in more work so it's kind of like showing the college that you are a very ambitious student and you really really want to get the most out of your education so with my getting into the Honors Program and graduating with honors certification my Marine Corps background volunteering and being in student actively involved myself and student organizations and showing that upward trend in my GPA like starting from here but transferring all the way up to here I think that really secured my spot at UCLA so definitely like know your strengths I mean when it comes down to it it definitely is a numbers game because you can't have a 1.0 and be class president and it's to get into Harvard but numbers still is only paper deep so if you can really get yourself well-rounded and put all of that also in your personal statement cuz your personal statement is really really important too so I put I wrapped all that in and packaged it all of my personal statement for my struggles to how my honor was tough for me to adapt to the whole community college environment to excelling in it to not adding more things on top of that I think that really created a short really short potential to the college so when they read that personal statement you know what like this kid he really knew how to guide himself and now he got himself where he with where he is so so for those of you guys out there who are trying to make it in life it doesn't matter if you're trying to go to a college or trying to get a job numbers are just numbers make sure you develop yourself as a person and make yourself really like in depth and a rich person and have a wealth of knowledge and down with definitely benefits you in the future so I hope I hope this episode answered a lot of those questions about how did you go from here to here ask you the classy and once again if you have any other questions about me about my time in the Marines about my time I used to LA about my time or whatever just comment on either this video or the channel comment but I read the channel comments a little bit more because it's easier to read and I will definitely keep coming at you with as many personal blogs as I can and I'll keep documenting my way to success to become a comedian thank you and good night do my research topics on
