Benchmark capstone project change proposal portfolio for money do my capstone logistics youngstown ohio cae exam writing proposal this is AJ here still do an open mic across America although for this one I don't know that we can call it that because we did go abroad and we crossed over into Canada and we went up to Montreal I ran into a little bit of trouble crossing the border and I understand why it seems a little suspicious to have a guy with no job and no real reason to come into your city drive across your border with enough things in his car to live for six months so I'm sure they were a little bit suspicious and they questioned be pretty good they made me park my car and even go inside and and they went through my phone and read my text messages but I got in I got in to Canada I made it so I was able to play quite a few open mics while I was up there there's a pretty good open mic scene in Montreal the only thing is there's not really a whole lot of original music up there there were a lot of covers there were some talented people but it just seemed to be a lot of covers Montreal is a really cool city itself there are some French pockets and some québécois so I took French in high school but it was still pretty impossible for me to understand what they were saying because it's a completely different accent than what you learn in school and what they speak in France so it was still fun you can have a good time public transportations good there's lots of cool restaurants lots of cool bars but let's get right to the open mics so the first open mic I was able to hit in Montreal was at a bar called brew topia it's in a cool area of town there's lots of bars around there but there's an open mic in this one it's got a good little stage in the corner not a ton of space on the stage but it's enough space to get done what you need to the host is very nice he starts off the evening by playing some songs he's very very good he was he was a talented guy and then you run right through the acts and you get through pretty quickly the the host kind of keeps jumping on and off the stage trying to correct the sound and that's great I admire that he's trying to be perfect with the sound that he's trying to get it as right as he can but it just kind of interrupts the acts when he's jumping on the stage while they're singing a song Jim's back off the station and he jumps back on during the same song so that you know maybe he could just let it go a little bit try and get it close to perfect and then leave it until the next act but uh you know it shows that he cares and he's trying to get it all done and and it was it was a fun space to play the people were engaged it's kind of like a rowdy bar crowd but it was fun to play at for performing at it you do get a beer so it was a good time I like to perform in at brew taupe-y I would check it out if you're in the Montreal area now on Mondays you are able to sneak to back-to-back open mics which is nice anytime that you can get to in one night is kind of it's kind of cool to catch so there's one at a little Mexican restaurant called burrito Ville you can get in there it's just got a small space set aside for a stage it's got a decent sound system it's just a speaker and a sound board nothing too exciting but it's not a very large space so you don't you don't need a whole lot of sound in there the host is really cool she keeps things going it's got kind of a cafe feel to it so it's more of a laid-back vibe instead of that that bar vibe that you get when you're doing open mics in a bar it was fun to play out it wasn't super organized the time that they advertised it at isn't necessarily the time that they start at and granted I was there on a rainy day so weather might have have prevented the hosts from being there exactly on time but it's not largely attended there were only a few acts while I was there but it's still fun to play you get a nice little space or some good food there check it out but if you're expecting a big crowd don't go to burrito ville but you know if you just want to try out some things in front of a few people and see how it goes burrito fills the spot for you now after burrito ville you can make your way over to Old Orchard which is again more like a bar open mic so this one's very different from burrito ville so you're hitting two different types of open mikes in the same night this one's in a bar there's a lot of covers played at it the host is good lots of cool people but you are in a bar the people aren't super engaged they're kind of just there watching the TV you're getting their drinks and they kind of have music going on in the background people playing so some people will pay attention to you other people are just enjoying their night the sound system is okay the monitor was a little bit awkward just the way that the monitors were set up you were kind of it wasn't the best way to hear yourself while you were performing but from an audience standpoint the sound was great when I was watching other acts the sound was great but I kept hearing the host warning them about the monitor sound and then when I got up I knew exactly what he meant because there was just an awkward sound about it while I was playing and hearing myself back I don't know if it was the timing was off or just a cable issue but it just didn't sound the way that I would want it to sound from where I was performing and so that part's kind of awkward but it's still a fun space to play the host is very nice it's a cool bar it's in a fun area of town I would check it out Old Orchard now there's another space that I was able to play at that's not quite like an open mic it's more like a showcase but you can get on to it as if it's an open mic you just kind of want to email ahead of time and and touch base with the host but that was at the bar of the confessional and it's a cool space it's it's got a good stage it's a dark little bar but it's got a really interesting atmosphere some cool lighting great sound system and the two guys that hosts it are very very talented they play some really cool songs but they mostly do covers they actually I think they exclusively did covers while I was there they do some cool covers they've got a guitar and a Cajon and some other percussion that they use throughout and they do some very fun covers they get the crowd engaged they play some fun stuff the other acts that are there they seem to go there pretty regularly because it's a cool venue they like playing that venue I could understand why there just wasn't a whole lot of original music and for me that's kind of a big deal I love original music that's why I love going to open mics is to hear what people are creating to share what I create so that was kind of lacking kind of overall in Montreal there was there just wasn't a whole lot of original music that I could find it was a lot of covers and while they were good covers and some of them were interesting covers and some people did some cool mashups it just it wasn't original and I want to hear people's original music I want to hear something coming out of people's soul so was kind of lacking up there but that's not to say that it's not fun to go and play Montreal there is a good music scene there are some some cool venues and some fun places to play bar confessed you now it's it's worth playing if you can get on to the bill just shoot them an email check out their website and and send an email over and see if you can get on for the night because it is a very cool space as fun spot to play alright so from here there's not much further northeast we can go we're gonna head over towards Maine before we turn around and make our way back west I'm gonna put helpful links below thanks so much for checking in if you have any questions or any comments feel free to shoot me an email or send me a video and we'll check in later thank you change page
