normality or at least my own version of it I can't really do with finding that at the moment so QA if you're watching this it means we did a Q&A so also the blonde is gone I'm sure it'll be back soon but for now we just were Amy Winehouse in it how do you keep going when your whole life is a massive I don't know and you just want some answers that nobody will give you you know I often wish that I was one of the green brothers because they would just have some quote lying around but I guess that illustrates your point about wanting answers and not having them so I'll say two things one big mood and two I've often found that searching for those answers is a much better experience when it's done with people you care about because even if you don't find them what you do find our experiences they'll hopefully make the whole thing worthwhile at least that's what I'm hoping in the meantime don't ignore the basics I guess how did the paper go the paper went and it's gone and that is all that matters but thank you for asking it's done and I'm gonna try and never think about it ever again what would be your top recommendations for films it's kind of a big question my first answer is that you can probably learn everything you've ever wanted to know not just about filmmaking but about life itself from Paddington too but you should probably check out the other films that aren't Paddington too because they're pretty good as well I hear but yeah it's kind of a big question as car-like asking hey which is the best dog which is the best dog yeah moving on best way to be productive without burning out I don't know who you think you're asking here would you ask a dog how not to be a good boy sorry umm I would try not to be too all-or-nothing about the way that you produce your work I want the instant gratification of having it done but spacing it out over the span of maybe a few days is usually much better depending on the size of the project aside from that I'd say just sitting down to do the thing that you don't want to do is usually the best thing to do what's your favorite place and why this place a few years ago I would have said the High Line garden which is a converted above-ground railroad in Manhattan nowadays though I'm honestly not sure I still love there very much but it'll probably be somewhere in London I love this city more than anywhere else in the world but I don't think that I could pinpoint an exact location that has everything for me what do you do to take care of yourself again I don't know who you think you're asking here the simple answer is but if you want something that's a little bit more detailed I went to one of the best parties ever recently and left with just the biggest stack of books I will probably do a bookshelf tour at some point but for now all you need to know is that there is lots of stuff on it and I have not read nearly enough of it anyway I have deleted most of the social media apps from my phone and I'm trying to read instead of scrolling I plan on burning through a lot of these this year and I do mean burning through not burning through you're standing in front of an audience winning an award for a movie you've just created what's the one question you would dread an audience member asking that's a good question and one that I honestly haven't asked myself that much and maybe that says something about me but I don't know it'll probably be a long time before I'm winning any awards for the stuff that I do so I'll probably have completely different fears and anxieties about that like I'm holding the award and everyone's clapping and you know the music is swelling and I've just made my speech and it's all been leading up to this moment and everyone's smiling everyone's smiling except for one person and he stands up very slowly and he looks at me and he yells I'll never forget what you did and suddenly the room is silent and everyone's looking at him and he pulls off his face and it's taha and I look at him I say Taha you're meant to be dead and he says didn't you hope so and he pulls out a gun and he shoots me but I don't die and my body is just transported back to this moment will that be one of the fears that future Sam has I don't know his problem I'm just trying to make it through the week which friends character I'm glad that we're in a place now where we can go back and re-examine friends with more of a modern lens and we can see all the homophobic and transphobic and sexist crap that while wasn't really the ethos of the show was pretty nice we engrained within it looking forward to people finding out but how I Met Your Mother really isn't that much better in most cases and that the Big Bang Theory isn't actually a comedy at all Wow okay careful with those they're sharp I say this is someone who is currently re watching and really enjoying friends and someone who loves How I Met Your Mother I have a lot of respect for the people who work on these things as well I'm trying to say but while it can be an uncomfortable experience to look back on something that was very influential to you and to see it for all of its flaws I think that's a really positive and healthy experience to have so I don't say this vindictively I mean like isn't it great that we can look back on the things that we loved in our early years and go oh that's messed up it's showing that we've grown I guess I spent a lot of my youth idealize on the characters and friends and wanting to be a lot like them and while a fancy apartment that I don't really have to pay for and a much better social life would be greatly appreciated right now I find that the less that I am identifying personally with these characters the better off I probably am all of this to say you know I think I'm like mostly Monica but with just like a little bit of Joey but I would love to hear your thoughts on this and on sitcoms as a whole maybe we make a video on it it's gonna be a long year we got a lot to talk about what is an unpopular opinion that you have the world is getting better and we as a species are improving and maybe we are going to do great things I am not ignorant to the state of the world at the moment but the optimist in me believes that we truly are going to get through it and that we are going to be better I don't know how long that's gonna take but yeah I know sincerity isn't really sexy these days but hey never really have much of that going for me anyway what do you want to achieve in 2018 okay we'll talk for a second I tried to make a 2017 video with all of the footage that I've been capturing this year but honestly every time I would even try and think about it it was like touching a rule cut or a fresh burn I have a lot of stuff that I want to do this year but I think if I can look back on 2018 and not feel like that I will have achieved everything that I want to how would you deal with not being talented in something you're passionate at even after working hard to get better I made a video about talent already that I stand by but I do want to say a few extra things that might help last year I pitched to direct one of my universities end-of-year films I pitched to direct three of them naturally I didn't get any and yeah that really hurt but instead I finished this and then made this this year I pitched for directing all of the final university films and again I didn't get any of them you are always going to be working harder to get better and there are always going to be setbacks and there are always going to be rejections keep doing what you can do it as much as you can eventually you'll get there and you won't even notice let's make some cool stuff this year let's make something weird I am saying that with some stuff I'll see you next time can you fail capstone 2 School of Industrial and Labor Relations.
